Fun Things to do

Explore – There is so much to do and see on the Eastern Shore.   Every way you turn there is another little creek and more wildlife so keep your eyes open (but also on the road).  Have fun and stop at road side stands!  Yelp will be pretty useless so you get to go back in time and go on gut intuition.

 Here are some favorites.    Traveler

  • National Geographic Traveler -http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/travel/road-trips/maryland-eastern-shore/ This is a great article about Cambridge, the wedding location, and Easton, the hotel spot.
  • Blackwater Wildlife Refuge  This is GORGEOUS and you will see tons of ducks, geese, deer and bald eagles if you look closely.  There is a visitor center and it’s a nice drive.   This is near-ish to the rehearsal dinner in Vienna so you could go on Friday before the Crab Feast.
  • Assateague Island is a great beach with Kitesurfing, Surfing and WILD PONIES who should have foals in September.   Nearby is Chincoteague Island which has famous giant Oysters and a Wild Pony Swim made famous by the childrens book Misty of Chincoteague.
  • Ocean City, MD –Take a walk on the boardwalk, ride the rides, east Thrasher’s French Fries, Phillips crab house, and drink at frozen cocktails at Seacret’s or Fishtails.
  • There are a number of small towns and islands nearby including St. Michaels - the most touristy and yuppie , Oxford (a car ferry ride away) , and Tilghman Island.
  • Heading down the shore a bit, there is Crisfield, a town famous for crab picking contests, Smith Island and Tangier Island which  are both interesting to visit on a boat tour.  This is a pretty authentic area of the shore.
  • Sailing is great on the Eastern Shore!  My grandfather helped build the traditional Skipjack the Nathan, which has cruises.  You can find boat tours in most every shore town.
  • Fishing – If you are interested in a fishing trip we can ask my brother for advice.  He’s a master!

 Eat

  • The Trip advisor reviews for Easton Restaurants are pretty spot on.  The Easton Diner  is a local favorite  – nothing fancy but it’s cheap and good.
  • Suicide Bridge is a super-quaint Eastern Shore restaurant on a quiet river.  Mark loves it there.

 Drink

  • Yelp is fairly limited for these parts, but here are some spots we liked.
  • Brasserie Brightwell  is an airy indoor/outdoor spot and the Hunters Tavern at the Tidewater Inn is conveniently located for outdoor people watching.   They have good food here too.
  • Washington Street Pub is a standard pub and General Tanukis is a sports bar that serves sushi.
  • Most of the B&Bs have nice small bars in them including The Inn at 202 Dover  has a swanky dining room and an apparently hidden bar (that we never found).
